That is an issue. I think comparing her to all the men (or an average thereof) would be appropriate.

She can't lower the bar too much, because that would be an indication of a lack of confidence and/or weakness. But, yes, a basic respect for the profession could be used to say that judging her against only the best is arguing that women are, in fact, better than men, who only need to meet minimal levels.
