Scene 1.

Yoda: Too old, is he.

SkyWot: Too old? I'm meant to be about ten years old.

Yoda: Much too old, that is.

SkyWot: I was ready for you to say I'm too young. How young are you supposed to be when you choose to dedicate yourself to a life of self-sacrifice and asceticism?

Yoda: From infancy, we train in the ways of the-

SkyWot: You mean babies?

Yoda: Mmm Ye-es.

SkyWot: That's worse than Jar Jar Binks!

Yoda: Such language!

SkyWot: Not enough language. I wanted in because my only Binks alternative was slavery to a flying, blue, antisimetic joke. So, it's either that or a cult?

Yoda: I sense much fear in you.

SkyWot: That can't be surprising. You got the part where I've only known slavery up until now. Even on better conditions, that's not too secure a place to live.

Yoda: Fear leads to anger.

SkyWot: It can... sometimes.

Yoda: Anger leads to hate.

SkyWot: Again, sometimes. Isn't Jedi training supposed to help me avoid that?

Yoda: And hatred leads to suffering.

SkyWot: Or, and here's another possibility, fear can lead to you finding a little ex-slave boy and, instead of giving him the training to use the obviously manifested talents carefully and for good, you can turn him out into the streets... because there's no way that can lead to suffering.

Yoda: Quiet, you should be.

SkyWot: No, I think I should be loud. Because, this is still the best of a set of bad options. Remember the slavery thing. But, somebody needs to talk about the reforms this place needs... like initiates that are old enough to understand what they might be giving up to join something like the Jedi.

Oh, sure, that would mean teenagers, usually.

Yoda: Silent, be you! Train whiny teenagers who think Galaxy altering political revolutions all revolve around their personal narratives and daddy issues, I will not!

Scene 2

Yoda: Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not.

SkyWot: That's your advice? Don't feel the inconvenient emotions?

Yoda: Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed that is.

SkyWot: Emotions have more dimensions than that.

Yoda: Listen, you should. Older and wiser in the ways of the Force am I.

SkyWot: Completely stupid in the way of sentient emotions, you are. Is this why you usually start with babies?

Yoda: This again not with.

SkyWot: The only people who could possibly take that kind of advice are people who don't have any real connections to other people, at least none that rival the strength of their connection to the Jedi faith and way of life.

Yoda: Gone over this how many times have we?

SkyWot: Obviously not enough times. Your entire philosophy is about only caring about people in the abstract. Care about anybody personally, for their own sake, just isn't something you're prepared to deal with.

Yoda: My words you mark. Lead to nowhere good will your attitude.

SkyWot: You know what? That's at least partly up to you. You can either acknowledge a more complex emotional reality or you can deal with where emotions go when they can't go away and people aren't trained in how to deal with them.

Scene 3

Obi Wan: Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

Darth Wot: Did you really just say that?

Obi Wan: What?

Darth Wot: Seriously? You have no idea how absolutist it is to say that only Siths deal in absolutes?

Obi Wan: Well, technically. But, only Siths deal in other absolutes than-

Darth Wot: And, you're honestly telling me that the Jedi philosophy's treatment of emotions each having only one possible result isn't absolutist?

Obi Wan: Okay, maybe if you say it like that, but that's twisting words.

Darth Wot: Oh come on! The Jedi Counsel has been a part of propping up failing monarchies all around the galaxy, because immediate political upheaval would upset galactic peace. Jedi aren't just absolutist, you're evil.

Obi Wan: You're a Sith. You killed a lot of children.

Darth Wot: Yeah, and if the Jedi Counsel was open to reforms that would make things less evil, that wouldn't have been necessary. Say what you will about the Sith, at least we do our evil in the open and don't act like we're good because we've got good optics on our side.

Obi Wan: There's no way the Jedi are as evil as the Sith.

Darth Wot: You take babies from their parents, not technically by abduction but that's hardly established in the movies, train them to have no real connection to anything but the Jedi Counsel and philosophy, deny them any option for ambition for anything but being a Jedi Knight, all so you can prop up failing governments. Compared to centuries of that, one group infanticide doesn't stack up.

Obi Wan starts eyeing the nearby lava flow...

Scene 4

Darth Wot: Luke, I am your father.

Luke SkyWot: No you're not. You never changed one diaper or read one bedtime story!

Darth Wot: You know what? You're right. It wasn't my plan. I'd wanted to raise you. But, it is a bit much to expect you to feel a familial connection based solely upon biology.

"Yoda: This again not with."

*snerk*

This right here is the main complaint I have with the Jedi philosophy in the movies - all emotions of a given name are the same! And lead the same bad place no matter what!

No, thanks. Got enough of that from my faith-of-origin.

Love this. As much as I love Star Wars, it does have its problems, and you've illuminated quite a few of them here.

I don't have a whole lot of hope for the new trilogy. Abrams doesn't do meaningful, he does flashy. :(
