In terms of Winston's immaturity, I think it's hard to draw a strict line between Winston being intentionally immature and Winston expressing attitudes seemingly like Orwell's own.
Winston's earlier disgust at the proles for not exercising their power on a revolution rather than grabbing for cooking supplies, for instance. I can't really tell where that lies. And, this point where Winston identifies horrible things happening to this girl and thinks her changing her mind is the worst option?
That feels uncomfortably close to home, for me, let alone Orwell who, the more I learn about, the less I trust in terms of respecting women.
