Mond points out later that much of Shakespeare is meaningless to Fordian society because they don't have the concepts (e.g. Romeo and Juliet is about a couple who can't just have sex). John acts as if he understands these concepts, but where did he learn them from? Linda won't know them. He's been an outcast in local society, and would they understand Shakespeare either?
