Scenes I'd Like to See: Superman
Apr. 30th, 2015 03:43 pmScene 1: High-school
Standard Bully Character stalks up and grabs Clark Kent to shove h im against a wall: Were you trying to make me look like a punk in front of the coach?
Clark Kent: No, it was just a fluke. Even you said you had a pebble in your shoe. That was probably it.
SBC: Don't play that game with me, Clark. You're not going to take my Track position-
Clark Kent: I don't want to.
SBC: Shut up.
SBC raises a fist and punches straight for Clark Kent's face. Clark evades with visible speed, but catches SBC's fist before it impacts with the brick wall behind.
Principal: You two, my office, now!
Cut to Principal's office waiting room. SBC and Clark sitting side by side in uncomfortable silence.
SBC, with arms crossed, glances over, then breaks the silence.: Why did you do it?
Clark: Do what?
SBC: Catch my hand like that? You coulda gotten people thinking you were tough if they heard you broke my hand.
Clark: Well... if I didn't... you would have broke your hand... and that really hurts.
SBC gives Clark a suspicious look, but doesn't say anything.
Clark: Why were you so mad about one race?
SBC: None of your business.
Clark: You know... I'm in the school paper... I don't have to say who my source is... just so you know.
Scene 2: The Kent home with John, Martha, and Clark.
John rubs a medicated hand lotion into Martha's hands. A close up indicates long healed burn scars on her palms.
John Kent: Why did you win the race?
Clark: Lana Lang was about to fall over the side of a bleacher. This way, she fell on me, instead of head first onto the concrete.
Martha flexes her hands: Can't fault that reasoning. But, I you still have to watch out.
Clark: What? Should I have just let her fall?
Both John and Martha look at Clark like he just said something stupid.
John: Of course not.
Martha: Who would even think that?
John: Just making the right decision doesn't stop us from worrying.
Martha: Or maybe nagging. That's what parents do when we love our boy.
John: Saving people, even when it's the right thing to do, can cost you. And, I'd just like the people I love not to get hurt... or hurt again. :Gives Martha's hand a kiss: He gets it from you, you know.
Martha gives a smirk to that, then turns to Clark: Now, this boy, you said he might know something?
Clark: I heard a few things, rumors of the coach pressuring some students into taking steroids. Nobody talked to me, though, I heard it through walls. So, I need a real source so I can get some actual info that I can write for the paper.
John: And, he isn't talking, is he?
Clark: No. I think he doesn't want anybody suspecting.
Martha: There's a way to do this, a way to give him the cover he wants. We'll just drive you over and, like good parents, make you apologize for getting into a fight.
Clark: But...
John: Listen to her, Clark.
Martha: That way, you can talk to him, see what he knows, and everybody can think you're just being humiliated by your parents.
John: Another thing good parents do.

Scene 3: Years later, immediately after a foiled attempt to rob a bank and get away by blowing the main support beam.
Captain: The press will be here, soon. They'll want to talk to the hero who saved all these lives.
Superman: Then, I'll let them talk to the real heroes. I just helped out where I could.
Superman lifts into the air and flies off before people start taking pictures.
Scene 4: Abord Zod's spaceship.
Zod: Kal-El, it was such a shame you were raised by these primitives. You have such potential. A Kryptonian education might have seen you to much better planning. Of course, it would also have shown you exactly how superior you are to these-
Superman: It's not my plan.
Zod: Excuse me?
Superman: It's not my plan. I don't even know what the plan is.
Zod: Then, how do you expect to defeat me?
Superman: I don't. But, someone else already has. They told me enough to tell you this much at the end, Zod. Listen carefully.
Zod smirks, but plays along to listen.
Superman: 3... 2... 1... Duck and cover!
