Scene I'd like to see.
Jan. 17th, 2015 02:12 pmHero: You'll never get away with this!
Villain: Oh, but I will. I will become more powerful. I will change the very nature of the world!
Hero: You want to play God!?!
Villain (goes on ignoring the Hero's question): And, when I have changed the world, the minimum wage will be a living wage and anybody who works will be able to afford a comfortable living and to build a savings!
Hero: Wait... what?
Villain: Can you see it? A world where a college education is the guaranteed right of anybody, regardless of financial conditions, paid for by a progressive tax structure!
Hero: I can, actually.
Villain: It will be glorious! No one will, ever again, be denied the possibility of their ambitions on the basis of class or race again.
Hero: Which side am I fighting for again?
Villain: Oh, but I will. I will become more powerful. I will change the very nature of the world!

Date: 2015-01-20 07:04 pm (UTC)Generally, it's about villains that have villainy as their general concept. "When I rule, everybody will..." and... well... how do you get minions with that kind of sales pitch?
It's more a reaction to that classical type of action/adventure/Bond/Fantasy kind of trope where the upright, upstanding, tall, good looking hero steps forth in defense of the Kingdom/powerstructure/whoever's in charge.
Because, seriously, every time I see people fighting for the kingdom as it is, I just think that this is a world in need of a democratic revolution.
I thought the same thing about A:tLA and it's hard not to think that a *lot* with regards to Game of Thrones.
